My Day In History

  • From there, call up the events for your birth date (month and day).

  • Create two lists for 20 of the people who share your birthday.  One list is for those who are celebrities and one list is for those who are influential.

  • Choose one person you believe to be the most influential.  (A couple words of caution: sports stars are not typically influential unless they have changed the sport in some important way.  Actors are not typically influential either, unless their work has inspired important changes in society.)

  • Write a short biography about this person, including the following information:
  1. Two pictures (with credits)
  2. Circa 1914. Ella Flagg YoungName
  3. Birth-year and city, country
  4. Education
  5. Family life
  6. Career information
  7. Death-where and when
  8. Link to the source you used for the information for the bio
 Ella Flagg Young 1/15/184
1st Female President of the
National Education Association

  • Thoroughly describe the achievement for which your subject is most well known. (Include credits for the sources you used.)

  • Write a brief (at three sentences) summary considering how you think life today might be different had this person never lived. This speculation will require you to:
*fully know the contribution made by this influential individual
                        *create a hypothetical societal situation

$10,000 Please!

Did you know that Mrs. P. was awarded $300.00 from KIMT’s “Tools for Schools” yesterday?  It got me thinking that you should write a “nomination” of sorts for your next post.

PICTURE THIS: There are $10,000 in (hypothetical) funds available.  You are to write a proposal for the funds on behalf of  RRMR school, the City of Rockford (or whatever town in which you live), Floyd County (or whatever county in which you live), or some other organization, group, club, or team.

Your proposal must include the following:

  • Explain the NEED.
(What is wrong with the current situation?)
  • Detail the CHANGE.
(What is the plan? What would the benefits be? Who would benefit? Exactly how would the funds be used?  Who would be involved?  What would the costs be?)

  • Include an actual picture of the need (arrange for the camera).
  • Include a picture of the proposed change.
  • Add links to the sources you used.

Complete and Utter Randomness (aka Chairs, Games, and Trees)

Random Blog Topic

1. Go to this blog topic generator website: http://www.hubspot.com/blog-topic-generator

2. Enter three random (or strategically thought out) nouns.

3. Click “Give Me Blog Topics”

4. Choose one of the generated topics for your post.

My example:
The three random nouns I entered were chairs, games, and trees. (Super clever, don’t you think?)

Here are two lists of ideas that the website generated for my nouns:

I would choose either “15 Best Blogs to Follow About Chairs” or “7 Things About Chairs Your Boss Wants To Know” because those topics sound fascinating.  After more consideration, I may decide to write about “What Will Chairs Be Like In 100 Years?”  I could REALLY do something snazzy with that. (I apparently have a passion for chairs that is only coming to light right now.  Weird.)  Let’s see if you can discover an unknown passion of your own through this process!

I realize this post may be a challenge.  Although the generator will “give” you the topic, it will be up to you to figure out how to present the information.  You may want to grab a chair and sit down for this next part: research will most likely be an integral part of this assignment.
