Give Thanks and Be Grateful

This Thanksgiving, I reflect on the holiday itself, my favorite holiday.  Thanksgiving is the only holiday that has nothing external and material attached to it.  There is no rabbit required to load chocolate and jelly beans into pastel baskets.  There are no horrifically disguised children begging for chocolate to throw into a disfigured plastic pumpkin.  There is no full-figured man in a red velvet suit sneaking into homes to place chocolate into over-sized socks that just got unpacked from the Rubbermaid container in the closet.  There aren't any hard feelings because the size of the heart-shaped box of chocolates wasn't as big as expected.  Thanksgiving is pure.  Thanksgiving simply involves people gathering together to express appreciation and gratitude for what they have and their ability to be together.  It's the one time of year many of us stop to realize how blessed we truly are.  Thanksgiving is pure and perfect.  The only thing missing is maybe some chocolate.
