Post #5 - My Best Friend

Tell me and all of your readers about your best friend! It can include pretty much anything (as long as it’s school appropriate, of course).

Criteria:

-Write at least 200 words; it’s your best friend, you can do it.

-Include two or more pictures of you and your best friend or just pictures of your
best friend.

-Describe one detailed memory that you have of your best friend.  It can be a funny
memory, a sentimental memory, your earliest memory, or a recount of your latest
escapade.

-Include how you met and/or became best friends.

-Explain why you like him/her (What qualities does he/she possess that you
appreciate?)

-Ask a question of your readers.

-Invite readers to leave a comment.

-Employ proper grammar.

Example:
My best friend is Freddie. Freddie is pretty darn snazzy! We became best friends at the swimming pool when we were still wearing waterproof diapers (we were two years old, not incontinent teenagers). I remember the lengthy phase Freddie went through in elementary school where he wore a large white towel as a cape and bragged that he could fly.  Well, I was pretty sure he couldn’t fly, but as his best friend, I wanted to support his dreams.  When Freddie fell off the roof in an attempt to “prove” to the other kids that he had the power of flight, I never once said, “I told you so.”  One of Freddie’s best qualities is his cool hair and beautiful, glorious mustache.  And despite his large white towel days, he is the most intelligent person I’ve ever met.  He earned a 36 on his ACT and is planning on attending Starfleet Academy majoring in aviation.  How does your best friend stack up to my Freddie? Leave a comment below!

~Obviously you would have more than that, but you get the idea.~

Start with RRMR Is… and then add the one perfect word that completes the phrase.

In addition to the text, you are to take ONE photo that captures the essence of your experience here.

The photo could be of a person, an object, or a location within the building.

What I Say/What Others Say

YOUR TASK:

Choose a topic of current interest.

Write your opinion about it.
Your opinion must be at least five sentences in length and include specific examples of why you feel the way you do.

Find two sources (news article, blog post, TED talk, YouTube video, podcast, infographic, etc) that support your opinion.

Summarize each source and include a link to each.
In addition to the summary of the author’s viewpoint on the topic, you need to include:
  • author (or host)
  • date published or posted
  • title of article/post/video/etc.

Find two sources that oppose your opinion.

Summarize each and include a link to each.
(See above for directions on the summary)

Include two pictures with credits.

MY EXAMPLE:
Topic: Prom
Opinion: Prom is an important ritual of adolescence, but it has morphed into a contest of monetary spending.  Dresses can cost hundreds of dollars; one local girl paid $725.00 for the dress she will wear for less than 10 hours.  Add to that the cost of shoes, jewelry, flowers, tanning, mani/pedi, makeup, the appointment to have hair done, and the ticket to the event, and it soon becomes evident that just preparing for prom can easily cost $1000.00.  Many teens now also feel the need to forego the ride in Pop’s classic car to the diner uptown and instead rent a party bus or Hummer limo to take them to a restaurant in a city 60 miles away. One must consider if the social value of experiencing the rite of passage known as prom compensates for months worth of work needed to fund that one evening.

Opposition of Opinion: The “Prom on a Budget” YouTube video published 3/27/09, features Amy Wagner, who suggests...
